What you get

Bring a new game to the table this Christmas. Race to the Gingerbread Village is an original roll-and-move board game for families. Players hurry along a snowy path, slide down icy slopes, cross candy cane bridges, stop for cocoa breaks and draw action cards with sweet surprises, little setbacks and silly challenges. The rules are simple enough for a 5-year-old, and the cards keep it fun for older kids and grown-ups too.

What's included (17 pages, US Letter + A4 PDFs):

  • Big game board on 2 pages - 58 squares plus Start and the Gingerbread Village finish, with Icy Slides, Candy Cane Bridges, Snowball Swaps, Cocoa Breaks and Card squares. A glue strip and A-B-C marks help you join the two halves (about 14 x 9 inches once joined).
  • 36 action cards - 12 Sweet cards (move ahead, roll again, Ice Skates), 12 Oops cards (move back, skip a turn) and 12 Challenge cards with funny physical tasks, like holding a snowman pose, waddling like a penguin or humming any tune
  • 6 fold-up pawns with stands - gingerbread kid, snowman, penguin, fox, polar bear and reindeer, plus 6 flat tokens if you'd rather not fold
  • Fold-up die template - a cube net with glue tabs, laid out like a real die (opposite faces add up to 7), 2 copies
  • Rules pages - setup, how a turn works, how to win, what every square and card does
  • 3 ways to play - Classic, a Quick game for the youngest (no going backwards) and a Long "Village Parade" game where everyone plays until they reach the Village
  • Score & game record sheet - a Village Champions win tracker and a game log
  • Coloring version of the board - kids color their own board, then play on it
  • Bonus: 9 blank make-your-own challenge cards and optional card backs

Play-tested by computer We ran 10,000 simulated games for every version and player count to check the rules. Every game came to an end. A classic game takes about 15–19 rounds on average (around 15–30 minutes), the quick game about 13–14 rounds and the Village Parade about 30–40 rounds.

Good to know - 2–6 players, ages 5 and up. Younger players can team up with a grown-up. - You need scissors, glue or tape, and a pencil. Any regular die works too. - Original game, text and illustrations. No licensed characters. Not religious.
